DEXA (Bone Density Scan)
A dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry scan (DEXA), or bone density scan, is a special type of x-ray that measures bone mineral density (BMD). This type of examination provides information about bone strength or fragility and the risk of fractures or broken bones. Generally, the higher the density, the lower the risk of fracture.
Currently, DEXA is the simplest, safest, and most readily accessible test to help establish a snapshot of a person’s overall bone density. This test can help diagnose conditions such as early osteoporosis, which in turn helps prevent fractures from occurring.
At NIA Diagnostic Imaging, we invest in the latest digital DEXA technology which offers excellent image quality and lowest radiation dose possible at a highly efficient manner compared with conventional x-ray systems. Thus, results are readily available in no time.
